Richie was a capo before being sent to prison for ten years. While Richie was in prison, Jackie died and upon his release, Richie came back to a very different organisation with Tony Soprano as the boss.
An original gangster who was made in Italy, Feech came over to America in the 1950s and settled in New Jersey where he became involved with the DiMeo crime family with Ercoli 'Eckley' DiMeo. In 1984 he was convicted of criminal charges and began serving a twenty year sentence.

He "made his bones" killing Emil Kolar in order to settle a dispute the family was having over the Triborough Towers garbage routes. He was also involved with a hijacking dispute with his friend Brendan Filone. These trucks were under the protection of Junior Soprano, and the hijacking prompted Junior to request a sit-down and demand compensation.

Mikey Palmice was Junior Soprano's enforcer and chauffeur. In 1999 he wanted to take care of any opposition to Junior, including Tony Soprano and Christopher Moltisanti in order to help Junior become the boss. He worked alongside Chucky Signore, another of Junior's top cronies.
In 1999, Paulie Gualtieri was a central member of Tony's crew. This included excecuting a Colombian drug dealer and stealing a large quantity of drugs and cash from his hotel room.

It is unknown who took Jackie Aprile place as Capo when he was promoted to Acting Boss. There is however the possibility that all his interests were still controlled by him or by another Capo on behalf of him.
Junior was angered by Eckleys' decision to make Jackie Aprile the Acting Boss while he was in jail. This created much hostility between him and Jackie. However after learning that Jackie Aprile had got cancer, Junior expected that he would be next in line to be Boss after he eventually died - only his nephew Tony could stand in his way.
In the spring of 1999, Tony's good friend and boss Jackie Aprile was in hospital and begun chemotherapy treatments. With Tony's role in the family's operation increasing and disagreements including Tony thwarting Junior's plot to kill Pussy Malanga, tensions between Tony and Uncle Junior rose and reached an all-time high as Jackie's condition turned for the worse.

while Ercoli 'Eckley' DiMeo went on trial, Jackie was named became boss in all but name by the old man. This greatly infuriated Junior Soprano who had believed with his brother Johnny dead and DiMeo on trial, that he would become boss. However, by 1999 he had contracted intestinal cancer and was clearly fading fast.
